The aerospace research groups within the Department of Industrial Engineering have a long-standing tradition that dates back to 1926, when General Professor Umberto Nobile—famous designer, airship pilot, and polar explorer—established the Laboratory of Aeronautical Structures. The Department of Industrial Engineering (DII) plays a significant role within the European scientific community, consistently contributing to major European-funded research projects.
